The Lateral Kindness Heart

2015

As Marilyn and Thomas continued to give their workshops on Lateral Violence, they kept hearing people say they wanted to focus on the positive. People asked: “Once we get rid of this Lateral Violence, what will we replace it with?” Out of this Marilyn and Thomas coined the term “Lateral Kindness”.

In 2015, Marilyn and Thomas commissioned Tlingit artist Blake Nelson Lepine to create an image to convey the spirit of "Lateral Kindness". Blake created the Lateral Kindness Heart, which we have used ever since on hoodies, printed materials and here on our website to help spread the message of positivity. This is the history of the term Lateral Kindness.
